Dedicated to the memory of Gebo

Michael Akinyemi fondly known as Gebo to friends was born in May 1976 as the 5th child of Engr. Anthony Akintoye and Chief Mrs. Theresa Arike Adegebo of blessed memory of Apete Compound, Ibadan. Akinyemi, a hearty, fun loving child started his primary education at the Bodija International School and concluded it at Maryhill Convent School, Idi Ape. He attended the International School Ibadan for his secondary education and proceeded to University of Ibadan and the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology for his higher education before he relocated to the United Kingdom in 2002 to further his education.

Akinyemi, an enterprising, exuberant young man with a friendly personality went through Information Technology training courses at different levels and received certification as an IT engineer. He worked for several companies in the UK as a contract staff.

While living in England, he met and got married to his wife, Kehinde Oluwakemi in January 2008. The marriage is blessed with two beautiful daughters: Anjolaoluwa and OluwaDarasimi.  Akinyemi is also survived by his six siblings (Tunde, Odunola, Bukola, Abimbola, Modupe and Anthony) and a host of other relations and friends.

Akinyemi has a wicked sense of humour and one of his outstanding qualities was the gift to personalise friendships which he never lost. He had nicknames for everyone including the nurses that took care of him. They all remember him with fondness. He was someone who made others feel relaxed and happy.

His last words were ‘Thank you Jesus’ said with all his strength whilst lifting both arms in praises to God. God had lovingly prepared this son of his for his definitive encounter with his Father. He died surrounded by his wife and siblings on the 31st of October 2022.

Gebo will be dearly missed but lives on for all eternity in the hearts and minds of his dearly loved family and friends.

Akinyemi!!!! Thank u for all u were. Thank u for making me laugh at every encounter I had with u. You fondly called me ‘Nurse Tito’. It was a great pleasure and honour to have lived up to that Nickname, nursing u in the last few months you spent here. You were still as funny and witty, even while we prayed and hoped u would get better. But who are we to question God? I will miss u so much Akinyemi. Who would make fun of the wheels on my car tires now? O ga o. Sun re o Egbon mi. Till we meet again in the bossom of our Lord. Xxxx

Akinyemi the legend To many of us it is still difficult to understand why you had to leave so soon, but who are we to question, however we find comfort in your departure from this sinful world, Knowing you are resting and cracking up the angels just like you always do,Knowing that you left behind so much memories that we your friends can never come together without remembering you because you renamed if not all of us but most of us and today we answer to those names, so how can we possibly forget you?Plus as a true gifted legend you did what stars do,You came saw conquered and touched so many lives and you left! Rest well my brother my friend my legend Akinyemi Gebolee 9 🤎🕊
